The BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global returns for yet another thrilling week of top-notch tennis

Come 23 October, the world’s greatest women tennis players and doubles teams will return to Singapore to battle it out at the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore 2016 presented by SC Global. Naturally, it is the time of year when tennis fever hits Singapore, as the matches and numerous satellite events draw eager fans.

It will all begin with the Singles Public Draw at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands on 21 October. Fans will get their first glimpse of their favourite players who will be drawn into one of two groups for the round robin match-ups. The players will also take the stage to answer questions submitted by fans.

Over at the Singapore Sports Hub, the Fan Zone will be the centre of fun for the whole family, with tennis-themed activities such as skills-based tennis games, autograph sessions and appearances by the players.

On Sunday, 23 October, the opening session of the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global will kick off, along with the inaugural Family Day. The latter’s programme will begin with the WTA Future Stars Final, followed by a series of on-court programmes with WTA players or legends. The young and young at heart will find thrills at the photo booths, while lucky fans might get the opportunity to come up-close with their favourite players at OCBC Square or at the practice courts at OCBC Arena.

The focus, however, will remain squarely on the matches as the players vie for the US$6.5 million prize on centre court. Distinguished guests of the Racquet Club, the event’s official hospitality programme, can look forward to mingling with their friends and peers, and tennis legends as they wine and dine over world-class tennis.

From 24 to 25 October, the Tennis Coaches Conference returns for its third year at the Conrad Centennial Singapore. Renowned speakers such as WTA legend Arantxa Sanchez-Vicaro and sports science expert Dr Ann Quinn will offer insights into the conference’s theme, Developmental Years. The conference package includes a full-day seminar, half-day on-court demonstration and tickets to the event.

The Doubles Public Draw Ceremony will take place on 25 October at the Fan Zone. Expect to see the likes of Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis, the first pair to qualify.

While the WTA players fight it out at the OCBC Arena, Asia’s most promising young tennis talents (under 14 and under 16) will take to the courts at Kallang Tennis Centre and the Singapore Indoor Stadium. There they will vie for the crown of WTA Future Stars. The Future Stars programme serves not only as a developmental phase for budding players, but also provides a glimpse of what the future of women’s tennis holds.

Suffice it to say, the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global looks set to be an exciting week. “More than anything, we are celebrating the spirit of sportsmanship and excellence with this event,” said SC Global Chairman and CEO Simon Cheong. “We hope our guests come away with a sense of how a sport like tennis embodies strength, tenacity and incredible effort, and how it can be a unifying factor for people young and old, from all walks of life.”
